A monk traveling around Japan to dedicate sutras heads for Kawachi Province.

At Tatsuta River he meets a shrine maiden, who tells him what is said about Tatsuta Myōjin Shrine and prays with him.

Holding sakaki leaves and pulling her hem beautifully, the shrine maiden goes around the halls with the traveling monk.

The shrine maiden appears as the goddess Tatsuta Myōjin and relates stories on matters such as engi, the Buddhist doctrine of dependent origination, or causation.
